Two days of mountain bike hire and transport for the price of one!
Includes two nights accommodation, breakfast each day, mountain bike hire for two days and daily transport to the famous Old Coach Road and the Ohakune Mountain Road.
Old Coach Road:
Riding along the historic cobblestone Ohakune Coach Road through a bush corridor on the slopes of Mount Ruapehu is an exciting adventure, a journey back in time. Look for the concrete piers for the bridge which crossed the Haeremaere Stream on the original railway alignment, the steel lattice Taonui Railway Viaduct, and enjoy expansive views across the Waimarino Plains. Magnificent Rimu trees, native falcons screaming through the air, pigeons flying between the tree tops, the curved steel lattice Hapuawhenua Viaduct alongside the 1987 concrete Hapuawhenua Viaduct and of course, the old railway tunnel. If you time it right, around 1:30pm, you may see the Kiwi Rail Overlander crossing the Hapuawhenua Viaduct. Information panels along the route tell the history of the Ohakune Coach Road and the railway construction. Because Horopito is about 500 feet higher than Ohakune, we will transport you to Horiptio to ride downhill to Ohakune.
Ohakune Mountain Road:
We will transport you to the top of the Ohakune Mountain Road at the base of the Turoa ski area. Enjoy the absolutely stunning mountain (including Mt. Taranaki on a clear day), forest and volcanic views from the sealed road. Make a quick stop at the picturesque Mangawhero Falls lookout. Enjoy a fast ride to begin with and then more scenic at the bottom part of the road.
Book Now – $300 per night – Minimum 2 night stay. Based on 2 adults sharing.
